A doctorate in Social Psychology (Psy. D.) is a professional doctorate that prepares students for clinical practice in psychology. They are trained to provide psychological services such as psychotherapy, psychological testing and assessment. They may work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, mental health clinics, government offices, and schools. Social psychologists analyze the thoughts, feelings and behaviors of a community to identify their shortcomings and develop plans and interventions to improve their quality of life. They may work in the following areas: studying, assessing and analyzing the needs of a group or community; developing indices and indicators of aspects related to interaction within a group; detecting risk groups within a community.
